Your child’s first visit to iKids

We are committed to providing safe, gentle, and high-quality dental care for you and your family. It is our goal to ensure that your child feels comfortable whilst simultaneously providing the best possible dental care. Your child’s first visit is all about their comfort and happiness and it gives parents a chance to become educated on how to take proper care of their child’s teeth. This first visit also gives children the chance to become comfortable in a dental environment setting from a young age.

How To Prepare for Your Child’s First Dental Appointment

Parents can take many positive actions when talking to their children about their first trip to the dentist. It is important to talk to your child in a calm manner, providing answers to any questions they may have. Keep it light-hearted so that it can be a fun and educational experience for them.

You can explain to your child that the dentist will only need to examine their mouth and that they will spend time talking to them. For extra comfort, you can bring a snack for your child or even their favorite toy.

It is important to reassure your child, so try to avoid using negative words around them. Our pediatric specialists and team members use words that convey a positive and fun message when dealing with our little guests.

What To Expect During The First Appointment

During your visit, we will get to know you and your child and discuss any next steps. We will review their dental and medical history, conduct a gentle dental exam, and take X-rays of their mouth and teeth.

Your pediatric specialist will meet with you and your child to discuss the results of the X-rays. Your dentist will also create a treatment plan for your child and answer any questions you may have about your child’s oral health.

At your child’s next appointment, one of our hygienists can clean and polish your child’s teeth and check for any signs of dental issues.

When you are preparing to visit the dentist, we understand and respect the value of your time. Please keep in mind that appointments can take anywhere between 20-40 minutes.

How To Maintain Your Child’s Healthy Smile

The American Dental Association recommends children see the dentist every six months at the very least for routine teeth cleanings and checkups. Doing so will help maintain healthy teeth and gums and is essential for overall oral hygiene. We look forward to meeting you and your child for your child’s first appointment!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us at iKids Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics if you have any questions regarding your child’s first appointment. We would be delighted to assist you.
