Dr. Schwed’s profession allows him to combine science and art, with behavioral sciences and child development to help prevent oral disease and alleviate pain. He loves watching his patients grow and develop, gain confidence, and overcome their fears. He finds great pleasure in knowing that, through his work, he can positively affect the future course of a child’s life.
Dr. Schwed joined the healthcare field in 2004, first as a nurse specializing in oncology and chemotherapy, then as a dentist in 2014. As an oncology nurse, he saw many cases of oral cancer, and realized that the best way to lower one’s risk for debilitating disease is to educate people while they’re young. Dr. Schwed strongly believes that when kids learn to make healthy choices early in life, they dramatically increase their chances for staying healthy long term.
Dr. Schwed earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from New York University. Since graduating his continuing education interests have focused on the biological basis of tooth decay, growth of the oral structures, and how function shapes its development. He also has a strong interest in the oral-systemic connection, which is the idea that oral health has a direct and profound influence on overall body health and well-being.
Dr. Schwed and his wife Tova moved to Dallas a year ago with their four children, after 13 years in New York City’s historic Lower East Side. When he’s not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, playing games, or just working around the house.
The family is also active in the Dallas Orthodox Jewish Community. They believe that being active members of the community is one of the best ways to transmit their values of service, commitment, and charity to the next generation.
